BIO
• Cinema Cinema is a born and raised Brooklyn based duo.
• Just two of them.
• Cinema Cinema consists of Ev and Paul and they are cousins.
• Ev's mom & Paul’s dad are siblings. Ev and Paul are both named after their fathers.
• Ev and Paul have been playing together as this version of cinema, cinema since 1-11-08.
• They did 30 shows their 1st year together.
• They tour all over the country in a tiny 1995 Mazda Millenia that only has enough room for all their gear and them. Tight fit.
• Their tour vehicle is named Darryl after Darryl Strawberry.
• They are both huge met fans.
• They set a goal of doing 60 shows this year (to double last years amount) and have already done 41 thus far (up to today) and have 22 confirmed thru August 2009, and counting.
• Cinema Cinema brings a blast of Brooklyn to every town they come to.
• Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth is their cousin.
• They tend to poke fun at bands they see on the road that think they are tough or loud, that they couldn’t even survive in queens, let alone Brooklyn. It’s true.
• “You can throw a rock out the window of a moving vehicle in Brooklyn and
• hit a person from outta town in a "Brooklyn" band - and when we are in different states, you can throw a rock out the window and literally hit someone who wishes they were from Brooklyn. We use it to our advantage. We are born and raised.” Ev says from his home in Coney Island
• For Cinema Cinema gigs are like emotional boxing matches and they barely stop for air.
• Their new record “Exile Baby” was recorded without the use of any computers (unheard of in this day and age).
• It was recorded in the sequence that it appears on the final version on the record, by fate.
• It was done in 3 days.
• Paul plays a dirigidoo on the record.
• Paul used his house keys (dangle them in a swaying motion) as a percussion instrument on the record.
• Ev played the mandolin on the record and it was literally the 1st time he had ever touched one.
• Ev is a vegetarian.
• Ev does not know how to swim and is deathly afraid of the water.
• Ev never chews gum, ever.
• Ev used to have a VERY large problem with drugs (heroin) and has been free of his addiction for 5 years and 8 months.
• Ev still parties though cause he has a death wish.
• Ev is a psychotic fan of film.
• Ev has a photographic memory; he can recall specific dates and times (literally down to the date and day of the week of random occurrences) on call..
• Ev never took a guitar lesson.
• Ev is a huge fan of classical music.
• Ev first touched a guitar at 12 years of age and decided it was gonna be way too hard and he would just sing in a band.
• Ev joined his 1s band (Rise) at the age of 15 and a half, as the lead singer...and played on stages all over nyc (cbgb's, the pyramid club, the spiral, street level) before he was 18.
• Paul is a carnivore through and through.
• Paul started playing drums at 9 years old.
• He played his 1st gig at 12.
• Paul is a star of track and field.
• Paul is a mod.
• Paul is currently 20 years of age and needs to be snuck into most of the places that they play.,
• When Paul joined the band last year, he was just 19 years old then.
• Paul can recite Shakespeare on command.
• Paul's background is in jazz drums.
• Paul has not been arrested, yet.
• Paul can also play guitar, piano, and various wind instruments.
• Paul often gets into fights defending the honor of damsel's in distress, he is the resident gentleman of cinema, cinema.
• After playing in Provincetown recently, there is a rumor circulating that Paul has been linked to Madonna.
• Cinema Cinema are staunch believers in the DIY ethics and asethetic of BLACK FLAG -
• Ev has the Flagbars tattoo... “we have a policy of - what would Black Flag do?”
• Ev runs his own record label called The Lumiere Label.
• They are often known to literally bleed onstage.
• “Exile Baby” is a co-release - half on his label - and half on digitone records.
• Cinema, Cinema has 2 alter ego bands that they perform as - The Funeral Suits (death blues) and Mind Riot (ambient noise/shoegaze)
• Cinema, Cinema is experimental freak-out, atmospheric punk.
• Cinema, Cinema thanks you for reading this.
• There is no quiz.
• Enjoy the music.
